Chrome is here, long live Chrome!!

Tonight we decided to check out the new browser from Google, Chrome, and let’s just say…. we are impressed!  For their first run at it, Google has covered all the bases with this browser.

It’s only in beta but it is so simple to use, looks clean and works great!! After using it a couple of times, whenever you start up the browser it displays thumbnails of your most visited sites, and also your most recent bookmarks show up on the right.

Your favorite bookmarks are listed right below the address bar. You can drag the bookmarks to the “Bookmarks” folder so they will not clutter up the bar and you can also drag your most used bookmarks out of the “Bookmarks” folder up to the bar.   In the address bar you can type in the URL of the page that you want to go to, or… hold on to your hats, search terms!!  No more having to open a web browser then go to a search engine to find what you want, you can just type in your search term in the address field, and YES you can even use other search engines, you are not tied to using Google.  In a word super “clean”.

Chrome does all this, AND, it will even import all of your bookmarks and your passwords from IE.  Chrome has the normal tabbed browsing where you can rearrange your tabs just like IE, but here is where it is different; say you decide that you do not want another tab open, you want another browser window instead, all you need to do is drag the tab off the page and onto the desktop and presto! the tab is gone and another browser window is open, and if you don’t like that you can drag the newly created window back to the old browser window and drop it with the other tabs and it becomes a tab again.

Unlike IE, if one of your web applications or web sites crash it doesn’t take down the whole browser; it just stops that particular tab from working.  Chrome also promotes safe web browsing by warning you if you are going to a phishing site or a site that has malware.

Overall our impression of Google’s new browser, Chrome, is outstanding! We are looking forward to using it more and trying out all of its features.  Give it a try yourself or read about all the new features and see it in action at http://tools.google.com/chrome/intl/en-US/features.html#.
